Making eight single crochet stitches across for a total of 17 rows. This is what it should look like. Chain 1 and turn your work. Make a single crochet 2 together decrease across the first two stitches.
Half double crochet in the next stitch. Double crochet in the next stitch. In the same space, make 2 treble crochet, stitches. And two. Chain, one for the buttonhole.
Do the reverse, as before. Two treble crochet stitches in the next stitch.
